Ray High of Indianola presented a program on player pianos and their music at the Catlin Historical Society's March general meeting.

High said he had always loved piano music and decided buying a player piano would be easier than learning to play the piano himself.

The first player piano High purchased was not playable. With a book on the mechanics of player pianos as his only teacher (and six months of tedious work), High was able to get the music rolling.

High's sixth player is now under restoration. He said the experience gained from his previous projects allows him to complete the work on a piano in about three months.

High brought one of his six players to the meeting at the Catlin Community Center and played several songs as part of the program.

He estimates he has about 400 of the punched rolls that tells the piano what notes to play.
