Tilton Brothers Letter
A framed advertisement found in an area antique shop has a form letter pasted to the back.
The letter, printed in late 1879, was to be sent by Tilton Brothers to its customers asking them to settle their accounts and wishing them a happy New Year.
The type is similar to that used in the advertisement, printed by Charles V. Tilton at Catlin.
The letter reads:
Office of TILTON BROTHERS,
PALERMO. ILL, DECEMBER 31st. 1879.
As it is a good custom to
settle with both Debtor and Creditor at the close
of the year, we desire you to call for that purpose.
Let the books be closed by Cash or Note, also
accept our thanks for past patronage.
Our motto in the future, as in the past, shall be
"square dealing with quick sales and small profits"
With your encouragement we can continue to
keep a complete and well assorted stock of season-
Wishing you a happy New Year, and hoping to
meet you often during the year 1880,
WE ARE YOURS TRULY,
On the back
