Patriotic Service
  Matthew Lyon was a resident of Rutland County, VT.

He served as a paymaster in 1777, as a delagate to the Vermont Convention, a member of the Safety Council.

He also served as deptuy secretery to the governor in Chittenden.

In July 1776 he was commissioned as lieutenant in one of the companies of the "Green Mountain Boys" and later in service as commisary general, and eventually reached the rank of Col in the militia.
