Patriotic Service
  During the revolution John Woodson Jr was a resident of Cumberland Co, VA

He served as a Private in Captain John Morton's Co of the 4th Virginia Reg't of Foot, commanded by Col. Thomas Elliott. This company was designated at various times as Captain John Morton's and Captain John Holcomb's Company. He was among the first who took up arms in defense of his country and afer the Revolutionary struggle was a member of the Virginia Legislature.
