Tuenka, Julia and Anna, and Marchese, Joseph, Joseph (Jr.), Helen, and Jose (Josephine?) Can you tell me about these people, either in Croatia or Italy or in the U.S.? (I hope I have the name Tuenka right--it was nearly impossible to read on the Census.) Joseph Marchese was born about 1873 in Italy; Anna Tuenka (and I'm guessing her maiden name was the same as her sister's) was born either in 1875 or 1879 (1910 and 1920 census disagree) in Austrian Croatia. They married about 1900, probably in Croatia, as they had two children there-- Joseph, born 1901, and Helen, born about 1905. Apparently Joseph Sr. immigrated to the U.S. first, where he was listed as a mason; then Anna; then the two children with Anna's sister Julia Tuenka (born in Croatia about 1889). Julia was working as a servant with the Privak family. They were living at 248 Alexander Street, Tract D2, in Cook Co. in 1910. A third daughter was born to the couple about 1908 in IL--Jose (Josie for Josephine?), but Jose isn't with her mother on the 1920 census, and Anna is reported as widowed. I wonder what happened. Did Joseph die or take off? Anna Marchese was apparently a real survivor, as she is listed as a saloon proprietor in 1920 Cicero, Illinois, with young Joseph as a saloon waiter. This younger Joseph, though as far as I know, never married, had three children by at least two different women. And I'd dearly love to find my half brother or sister--or just more information about these people, their lives, where they came from, their families. Can you help?
