The
public is invited to a reception on Sunday, June 3, 2012, at the Macomb
City Hall from 2 till 4 P.M. hosted by the General Macomb DAR Chapter
to honor Dr. Gilbert Belles, Western Illinois University Professor
Emeritus. Dr. Belles has been awarded the NSDAR national Historic
Preservation Medal for his exemplary leadership in the location,
restoration and marking of more than 97 cemeteries in McDonough County
over the last eight years. Presently, he is designing a tourist
brochure/ guide, soon to be printed, to the most interesting
cemeteries, including those that contain the graves of four
Revolutionary Patriots. He is only the second Illinois resident
to receive this medal. |
