dedication

The dedication ceremony of the statue in Chandler Park honoring early Macomb's women leaders, including community and state activist, author, and founder of the General Macomb Chapter, DAR in 1910, Claire Kerns Bayless.     

Pictured: Dr Elizabeth (Betty) Kaspar, Regent, informing the large audience about Mrs. Bayless, who, in addition, was the wife of the president of Western Illinois College.  Also pictured, Tina Belz, DAR member and Co-chair of the Statue Committee for the Macomb Woman's Club.

Mrs. Mildred Sorrells, a member of the General Macomb chapter, was presented the "Women in the Arts Award" by Regent E. Betty Kaspar; she is nationally known for the hundreds of awards that she has received for her gorgeous quilts and wall hangings.

Illinois State Rep. Hammond also presented Millie with a certificate of recognition from the state and Mayor Michael Inman presented her with an award from the city. An officer of the Prairie Quilters Guild told of Mildred Sorrell's many quilting awards from all over the nation and the most pretentious award, the Swiss Bernina quilt prize of $12,000, plus that a new color of thread has been named for A photo also of one of her quilts was on the cake.


State Regent Candace Fryburger Visit

Dr. State Regent, Candace Fryburger was welcomed by the General Macomb Chapter at a recent meeting. Chapter officers: (L. to R.): Secretary Sarah Curtis. Treasurer Barbara Stein, Vice Regent Sharon Caldwell, Registrar Joan Mapes, State Regent Candace Fryburger, Chapter Regent Elizabeth (Betty) Kaspar and Chaplain Nancy Stanley.


Historic Preservation Medal presentation

Dr. Gilbert Belles received the NSDAR Historic Preservation Medal on June 3, 2012 from General Macomb Chapter Regent, Dr. Elizabeth Kaspar. Dr. Belles, a retired W.I.U. history professor, has been the leader in locating, marking, and restoring approximately ninety seven cemeteries in McDonough County over the past eight years. After locating the cemeteries, many in corn and soy bean fields, he enlists the aid of businesses, civic organizations, and even the Boy Scouts, to provide both the physical labor and the funds for the restoration.

Parade
General Macomb Chapter regent and vice regent participated in the Heritage Days Parade, the theme for which was
'Honoring Women Community Activists."
