Like our National Society, the Samuel Elder Chapter accomplishes much of its work under a committee system. Some of our committees are:
Americanism ~ we attend naturalization ceremonies in our area and welcome new citizens;
Commemorative Events ~ We celebrate and commemorate events in our Nation's history, such as Independence Day, Flag Day, the Bicentennial of the War of 1812;
Constitution Week ~ We observe Constitution Week by placing displays in libraries and other public places, give programs on the importance of the Constitution and obtain proclamations from local officials;
DAR Service to Veterans ~ We participate in oral history programs to preserve memories of veterans; we visit veterans in nursing homes, hospitals, and VA facilities; and we provide hygiene items and other things to veterans. We participate in Veterans' Day parades;
The Flag of the United States of America ~ distribute new flags to students and veterans and collect old worn flags and prepare them for 'retirement'.
Genealogical Records ~ we contribute new genealogical records to the DAR State Library and to the National Society library and local historical societies and libraries. We assist in making older records available for online research.
