EFFINGHAM COUNTY GENEALOGICAL AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY began in 1998, with the merge of Effingham County Genealogical Society and Effingham Regional Historical Society. ECGS was formed in 1980 to bring together people interested in genealogy and to discover, collect, and preserve the history of the people who contributed to establishing Effingham County. ERHS was formed in 1959, with emphasis on the history of the county and its inhabitants.
