Daniel BUZZARD

OBITUARY: Daniel Buzzard was born in Knox County, Ohio, September 29, 1823 and died August 4, 1889. At the age of 23 years, he married Miss Mary Frazier, who survives him. By this union there were fourteen children, nine of whom are still living. He moved to Illinois and located in Loudon City in 1847, where he worked at the blacksmith trade till the year 1851, when he moved to a farm near Greenland in the same township, where he resided till the time of his death.

He united with the Greenland Regular Baptist Church August 6, 1859, and was ordained as one of the first deacons of the church, which office he filled with credit till the day of his death. He was a man of prayer and a lover of the Bible. He not only read the Bible but studied it and had correct ideas of the plan of redemption.

His sickness was protracted, which gave him ample time to set his house in order. His children cared for him most tenderly and carefully. Upon them all he pronounced his dying blessing and exhorted them and others to live for heaven and eternal life. He was all the time an official member and could always find time to attend to the business of the church. His Christian experience was very rich and his life full of Christian activity. His influence was a power in his community. He was a truly kind husband and father. His tireless energy, faultless integrity, and wise economy secured him a large fortune, from which he bestowed generously upon the churches, besides dispensing many private charities, and favors in his own quiet modest way.

His remains were laid to rest in Greenland Cemetery. The funeral will be preached at the Greenland Baptist Church in the near future.

She had been a widow 29 years, Mr. Buzzard having died on August 4, 1889. She departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Phillips on Sunday, August 11, 1918; age 93 years, 4 months, and 21 days; survived by 5 sons (Julian, Silas, Benjamin, George, Harmon), 2 daughters (Clarisa and Martha E.), 36 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

A precious one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A chair is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
