A Civil War Veteran Dies - HENRY CROTSER

Mr. Henry CROTSER was born in Fayette County Illinois Aug. 8, 1841. He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah HOLLINGSHEAD April 4, 1872. To this union were born seven children, all dying in infancy except two sons, Homer J. Crotser and Wm. H. Crotser. The former's son departed this world at the age of 22 years 7 months and 7 days. He leaves the latter son William, one sister, Mary CUSTER of Drewer, Colo., one brother, David C. of Vera and 5 grandchildren, Myrle, Millard, Harold, Floyd and Elva Crotser of Vera and a host of friends to mourn his loss. Aug. 1, 1862 he enlisted in Co. F. 97 Illinois regiment serving 3 years and 8 days in the civil war, during this time he joined the First Baptist Church of New Orleans, afterwards he united with the Protestant Methodist Church of Vera. He was a faithful soldier until death, his last request was for all to meet him in the better land. He departed from this land of sorrows Oct. 6, 1917, age 76 years 1 month and 28 days. The funeral was conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Baptist Church by Bro. Syfert of Vandalia. Interment Sharon cemetery.
