WILLIS DODSON BALDWIN

My ancestor is Willis Dodson Baldwin who was born in Ramsey, IL in 1835 to William and Anna Baldwin.

Willis was raised in North Hurricane township until 1860 when he moved to Kansas near the beginning of the
Civil war.  Willis enlisted in the (Union) Kansas Volunteer Infantry,10th Regiment, Company E. This company was known as
the "foot calvary" because they ran along behind the mounted cavalry for miles at a time.  Willis fought at the bloody Battle of Prairie Grove, Arkansas and was wounded when he was shot in the arm. He continued on as a soldier in the war and was eventually discharged in 1864 at the end of the war.

Hope you found that interesting.
