LIFE SKETCH OF
James SHARP
James Sharp, the second son of Robert and Elizabeth Sharp, was born near London, England, April 8, 1831, and departed this life at his home in Vera, Ill., January 28, 1928, at the age of 97 years, 7 months and 20 days.
He came to America at the age of six and settled with the family on a farm near Brookport, NY.  In 1854 he was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Ann Linford.  Soon after their marriage they came to Illinois and located on a farm in Shafter Township, Fayette County. To this union were born four sons and one daughter:  Robert, Charles, and George, of Vera, IL., and Oscar Sharp of Waukegan, Ill., and Mrs. Lillie Jeppeson, who proceded her father to the better world some years ago.

After thirty-six years of wedded life the happiness of the home was marred by the death of Mrs. Sharp.  On October 31, 1895, he was again married to Mrs. Mary C. Upton who proved to be a faithful companion until the end came.
Mr. Sharp had been in failing health for several years but was always cheerful till the brittle threads of life ebbed away. Early in life he found his Savior and united with the Protestant
Methodist church, later transferring his membership to the Methodist Episcopal church, and died in that faith.

Besides his bereaved companion and four sons he leaves to mourn his departure one sister, Mrs. Ida Braun of Bay City, Michigan, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, besides a host of relatives and friends.  Five sisters and five brothers have
preceded him in death. He was a kind father and faithful husband and will be greatly missed not only by his relatives but also by a wide circle of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Vera M. E. Church, Monday afternoon at one o'clock. Rev. C. C. Yeck, pastor of the Moccasin M. E. church officiating.  Interment in South Hill cemetery at Vandalia.
