Charles Ellsworth Oary May 13, 1955
This is the Obit for Charles Ellsworth Oary age 84, long time resident of Vandalia died at 7:15 .am. Friday May 13 at the home of a son Alty (Bill) Oary at 632 South Elm St. Vandalia following a illness of 4 weeks.  Son of Leroy Oary and Mollie Gale Oary.  He was born in Wayne County, IL. On March 14, 1897 he was united in marriage with Jennie Mae Hatfill.  Her death occurred Dec. 28, 1929.
In addition to his son Alty he leaves the following daughters and sons Goldie Koehler and Pearl Stokes of Vandalia, Clifford of Taylorville, Sylvia Goff of Decatur, Lester of Rochester, Wayne of Manitou Beach, Mich. Marvin and Gerald addresses unknown.   There are 39 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.  Three children preceded him in death.  He left no living sisters and brothers.   Mr. Oary was a member of the First Christian Church of Vandalia in whose house of worship memorial
services were conducted at 2:30 p.m.  Sunday by the pastor Merrill Hershberger.   Hatfill, Rockwell, and Wright nephews served as casketbearers.  Burial was made in the Vandalia old cemetery.  Miller
Furneral Home in charge.  Among those from a distance who attended the funeral on Sunday afternoon included Mr. and Mrs. A. MacCallam of Adrian,Mich. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Wright and Mr. and Mrs Orville Wright of Decatur, Mr. and Mrs. William Koehler,  , Mr. and Mrs. Claud Wright of Brownstown, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Stokes of Irving the John Dawson family of Divernon, Mrs. Charles Kirgan, Miss Johanna Cleary, Miss Maxine Alender, Clyde Ehrat and Mr. and Mrs. Lucian Evans of Shobonier and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dwyer of Patoka.

Jennie (HATFILL) Oary
Mrs. Jennie Oary Died Here Saturday
Mrs. Jennie Oary, living northwest of Vandalia died at Mark Greer Hospital last Saturday evening after an extended illness.  She was the wife of Charles Oary and had lived most of her married life in this
vicinity.  Jennie Hatfill Oary, daughter of James and Amanda Hatfill was born in Sullivan, Ind. Jan 16, 1879 and departed this life Dec. 27, 1929 age 50yrs 11months, 12 days.  She was married to Charlie Oary in March 1898, at Shelbyville, IL.  To this union twelve children were born, two having preceded her in death in infancy. She leaves to mourn her death, her compaion and ten children namely Alty
and Murvin Oary, of Vandalia, Gerold Oary, of Peoria, IL. Mrs Herny Goff of Alma, Il. and Isadora, Goldy, Clifford, Lester, Wayne and Pearl at home, also two sisters, Mrs. Jess Rhoads of Springfield, IL. and Mrs. Manford Greenwood of Mulberry Grove, four brothers, Manford, Howard and
Murvin Hatfill of Mulberry Grove, and Will Hatfill of Vera, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
She was a kind and loving mother and a faithful companion.  To know her was to love her.  She was always working for her loved ones.  She bore her suffering patiently, always looking for something better and brighter.  The funeral services were held Monday Dec. 30th, at 2:00p.m. at the Christian church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Paul Bolman, Interment was in the Old Cemetery.
