OLDEST CITIZEN OF
          SHOBONIER DIED SUNDAY

Special from Shobonier.

On Sunday night occurred the death of our oldest citizen, Jehu Oates, who
was nearly 92 years old. He was a native of Virginia and came to these
parts during the Civil War. His old home and farm is in Pope township, but
he has made his home here with daughter, Mrs. J. U. Cooper, and family for
a few years. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Modlen of Carlinville.
Relatives present were, two brothers William of this place and Brown of
Taylorville, and four children; Evan of White Haven; Mrs. Shuler of
Owaneco; Mrs. Maggie Cooper and Frankie Oates of this place and
grandchildren, Clay and Amy Towler of Sullivan and Mrs. Lofaria Rice of
Wing, besides other grandchildren and relatives living nearby. Deceased was
a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.

MISS FRANKIE OATS

DIES IN SHOBONIER
Miss Frankie Oats died at the home of her sister, Mrs. James U. Cooper, last week. She had been ill for several months. She was about 50 years old. Since the death of her parents she had lived with her sister. Another sister, Mrs. Geo. Willett, died two years ago in Kaskaskia township. A brother, Evan Oats, died about a year ago.
The funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Miller of Shobonier.
Burial was in the Clark cemetery west of Vernon.
