Our 14th Birthday 1997 - 2011

We will be celebrating two great anniversaries in 2011.

April marks the Fourteenth Anniversary of incorporating the Fox Lake-Grant Township Area Historical Society.

It also is the Eighth Anniversary of our acquiring the nearly century-old former Grant Township Hall which our hard-working officers and volunteers have turned into our headquarters, meeting hall and Museum.

Met January 15

Our first general meeting of 2011 was Saturday morning, January 15, at Grant Hall Museum at 9:30 a.m.

At the meeting, we discussed the Great Outdoors in Grant Township and unveiled our new display on Ice Harvesting, Hunting and Fishing including a large display of antique lures.

Back Issues of Fox Lake Press

The many bound volumes of the Fox Lake Press for the years since it was founded in 1955 given to us by the new owners of The Fox Lake Press are available for viewing by appointment by calling 847/587-0544.

These contain a birds-eye view into history of the Fox Lake-Grant Township area for the past half century!

The Fox Lake-Grant Township Area Historical Society was delighted to receive this tremendous gift. We managed to find enough shelf space to house them in our headquarters office at Grant Hall Museum so they can be used for research and study.

March 19th Meeting

Diana Dretske of the Lake County Discovery Museum will speak on Lake County History - Overview of Lake County history from 17th century French voyageurs to county's settlement in 1830s and beyond, and will cover aspects of Lake County's agriculture, resorts, breweries, barbed wire manufacture, motion pictures, religious communities and military installations.
