Turdiddri
Boil oil, wine, shortening and water together. Set aside. Add eggs to
flour, then work in cooled liquid mixture with spoon. Add more flour if necessary. Knead a little until a formed ball. Shape by rolling piece of
dough into a ½ inch in diameter and 1 inch pieces. Fry 10-15 minutes. "Turdiddi and Scalidde are a main dessert staple in our home over the
holidays. My grandmother showed me how to make them and now I am showing my
children. Anyone I met from the southern part of Italy, around Cosenza, seemed to be familiar with these 'honey"
cookies." |
