G
eorge W. Bruce was born in Tennessee, April 10, 1834. He came to Gallatin County and settled near Shawneetown. He enlisted in 1861 in the late war and served eight months, but was obliged to retire on account of ill-health. After his return he settled near Omaha and engaged in farming. he went to Missouri and staid ten years. He then returned to Omaha, and is now in partnership with Mr. Young in the grocery business. Mr. Bruce is a son of Henry Bruce and grandson of Walker Bruce, the first man buried in Palestine cemetery.
