Transcribed and published by Valerie Phillips Gildehaus. Memoirs A Stroll through Egypt and Paradise Written by Ernie Heltsley. The book, 271 pp, perfect bound, about 9 by 7, is about Heltsley's life and family in Southern Illinois and Kentucky. The book includes a lot of the history of the areas, including Little Egypt, where Heltsley's family lived while his father, Ernest H. Heltsley, worked in the area coal mines during the first half of the 20th Century. Heltsley's mother, Rebecca Morris, was a native of Eldorado. Her ancestors came to Gallatin County in about 1831. There's some genealogy, but a lot of history, especially as it unfolded in the lives of Heltsley's ancestors as they moved toward the Shawneetown frontier.
