Talley's Ferry Don't know nothing about the history of this ferry on the Saline River below the mouth of Eagle Creek. Located in Section 20, Township 10 South, Range 9 East of the 3rd Principal Meridian on the road that ran from Shawneetown southeast to the modern Pounds Hollow-Karbers Ridge road. The 1876 county map shows the road crossing the Saline River likely indicating a ferry operating at that time. The map also shows a store on the northeast side of the river and road intersection. No modern bridge crosses the road at this location today. A part of the lands set aside for the salines, John Hart Crenshaw purchased the 40-acre tract on the Shawneetown side of the ferry crossing on June 9, 1836, in a competitive auction held by the land commissioner.
