Submitter: Dianne Luman (ntrnotes@ptw.com)
Date: 12 Dec 1998

George W. RODGERS b. 1838 in Jefferson County Kentucky. Family possibly moved to Spencer Co. Indiana then to Illinois. I believe he was married more than once. Possibly married a Nancy WEBB in 1855, Gallatin Co. Ill. I have not found anything to verify this is the right George. In his Civil War pension file it lists George's wife as an Elizabeth. Nancy died in 1863 so it's very possible he married again. Nancy and George's children are William, LouisA. and Ira.
Marth Jane GRIMES b. 1848 in Illinois. Married a man with a last name of DAILY. Her brother is John B. GRIMES who married a Rhoda WEBB, May 16, 1867 in Gallatin Co. Ill. Rhoda is possibly related to Nancy who was George's wife. Martha's father was named William T. GRIMES b.1813 in Pennsylvania. Martha and her husband had at least one child. Her name is Sally DAILY.
Sally DAILY b. 1871 in Illinois. Married a William RODGERS born in Illinois. William I believe is George and Nancy's son.
If any of this sounds familiar to you, please contact me. Thank you in advance for your help.

Looking for information on Joseph and Elizabeth STARK who died in Gallatin Co. in 1814. Elizabeth's maiden name was CALVIN/COLVIN or possibly KUYKENDALL (mother married twice). Joseph and Elizabeth's daughter Malinda STARK (b. 1809) m. Larkin BECK in Shelby/Moultrie Co. IL. Their son Christopher BECK wrote a short autobiography for his children and grandchildren at the age of 85 in 1922. His words concerning Joseph and Elizabeth: (I've deleted parts that I know to be false) "My mother was born in Hopkins Co., KY [other family records say Christian Co., KY]. Her name was Malinda STARK. Her parents started from Kentucky to Illinois when she was a small child. They stopped to camp near Shawneetown, Illinois, at the home of a German, where they both mysteriously died. The German claimed that their death was caused by cholera, but it was believed that he poisoned them and destroyed all their records, and confiscated most of their property. The children, James and Larkin STARK, together with my mother and 4 sisters, were found by friends and taken to Shelby Co., IL, where they were placed under the guardianship of an old Revolutionary soldier by the name of STEWART, who raised part of the children, and put the others in homes. Her sisters married James FRUIT, Edward WOOLEN, Jesse WALKER, and James WARD. I do not recall whom her brothers married." The Illinois database of public land sales shows that Joseph STARK bought 160 acres on Oct. 20, 1814, in SE part of section 2 of Bowlesville township, Gallatin Co. I believe this area currently borders on the Shawnee National Forest. There is a cemetery nearby, Hogan Cemetery. Are Joseph and Elizabeth buried in Hogan Cemetery? Who bought Joseph's land after he died? Who was the "German"? Who was the soldier STEWART? The above-mentioned WALKER and BECK families along with an allied family WAGGONER had many tracts of land in Moultrie Co.

My ancestor was William AKERS first found in Shawneetown 1809 when he and others petitioned Congress to allow the inhabitants to purchase the land they were already farming. His children by his first marriage were: William, Thomas, George W. and Susan. His second marriage was to Elizabeth Todd and their children were: Flavius Josephus, John and Andrew J. William died in Shawneetown 1841 and I am searching for any information about his birth place, dob, etc. There was also a Thomas AKERS there in Shawneetown and I believe he was a brother. Thomas died in 1824 and mentions his brothers and sisters in his will.

I'm also interested in Harriet ROBINSON. She married William's son William.
