I am looking for info. on Stephen Chambers who mar. Ann Stilly on July 11, 1830, Gallatin County. Both were deceased by l850 and their orphan daughter, Eliz. A. Chambers, 11, was living in household of her aunt, Polly Scroggins. Only clue I have is that Ann Stilly's family was located in Equality and so was William S. Chambers, the only Chambers in Gallatin County, in l830 on the census. William may have been Stephen's brother as he was close to Stephen's age according to the census. There were land patents for William S. Chambers in Kane County by l843. Little else found so far except that two other possible Chambers who married in Gallatin County were Jesse Chambers, who mar. I am searching for family of a civil war veteran mentioned in a journal of my ancestor, Dr. John T. Hunt. The man's name was Williams, and my ggggranfather BELIEVES his first name may have been David. He lived 12 miles outside of Shawneetown, IL and died in Shawneetown, IL in June 1862, from injuries received in the war. I don't know what regiment he was in, only the information given, as it was presented in my ancestor's journal. I believe whatever family this man still has would like to know of his last days and a first-hand account of some of his family. It is a very moving account of his last days and of his family. There are many other veterans mentioned in the journal also and I will be happy to do lookups. - Lori

Hi, I have found a great many marriages on the Illinon Statewide Marriage Index from Gallatin County by the names of Quigley & Philfeur (Philhour,Philhower,Philower) I do believe they were American Indians. I do not find any history in your web-site pertaining to the Shawnee areas. I do see that you say that Gallatin was popular for marriages and people came from all over. Were the Indians on the census from Gallatin? I live in the Chicago area, but the Fed Archives are only open now during the day while I am work. I was hoping to find other sources, but do not know what County the Quigley's would be found in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently posted a query about Charles R. Strong and Mary Elizabeth Cremeans, and got a home run with the Cremeans line. I am now also looking for information about George Washington Sanderson and Ellen Isabelle Rich/Riche, and the families they came from. These two were both born in Gallatin County, and they were married there in 1879. He was 20 yrs old at the time, and his parents were Thomas Sanderson and Mary McGhee. She was 17 yrs old at the time, and her parents were George Rich/Riche and Ellen Anders. I have been told that the children resulting from this marriage were Edward Sanderson, Pearl Sanderson, and Myrtle Sanderson. Any information at all that can be provided about any of these people would be very much appreciated.
