I am looking for some additional information with regard to PIE PLANT PETE:
Pie Plant Pete, whose real name was Claude Moye,
hailed from Gallatin County in Southern Illinois.
He was an early hillbilly pioneer on WLS. He
played guitar, harmonica, and sang. He recorded
for Gennett, I believe, and many of these records
were also released on various record labels
associated with the Sears catalog and store -
Silvertone, Supertone, Conqueror, etc. I'm not
sure when he left Chicago, perhaps early 1930s.
He moved on to staions in Ohio, Newyork, and
elsewhere.

I am the the gg granddaughter of William Carroll Morris and Sarah (Sallie) Parker. William was born in 1847 and lived his entire life in the area of Equality, Ill. I have been researching for years and have just found that William's father might be James Morris, born 1811 in Pittsylvania, Va. This James was married to Jane Morris, who I think is really Eliza Jane Cole. Both James and Jane Morris are buried in Wolf Creek Cem, Saline, Ill. I have a list of children for James and Jane Morris: 1) Sarah Morris, 2) Charlotte Morris (who I believe is married to James French), 3) Elizabeth Morris, 4) William Carroll Morris, 4) Louisa Morris and 5) Lura Ann Morris. It is also believed that James' father was William Morris who died in 1835 and is buried at Wold Creek Cem, Saline, Ill. His wife might have been Sarah ?. William's father might have been Benjamin Morris who died in 1791 (do not know where). Can anyone help me with this family? I know the stories of James Monroe Morris (my !
g grandfather), but not much beyond that. Thanks?

Looking for Gallatin County, IL Lowery/Lowrys and their related families. Love to hear from any family! Here's a timeline that lists all known names:
1833
Our great-great grandfather John Lowery married Rachel Carpenter, Feb. 14, 1833, Maury County, TN (there is no proof yet these are ours but they are the only couple I've found so far in Middle TN marriage records that fit the bill. They would have both been about 16 years old at the time of their marriage, as both John and Rachel were born about 1817: she in TN, he in N.C. Their kids were born in TN from 1836-1840 and from 1842-1847 in IL so they probably married in TN. See what I believe to be this same couple after they move to IL below.)
1850
1850 Gallatin County, IL Census:
Lowery, John, 33, male, laborer, born N.C. about 1817 (our great-great grandfather)
Rachael, 33, wife, born TN about 1817, can't read or write
Sarah, daughter, age 14, born TN about 1836
Jesse T., son, age 12, born TN, 1838 (our great-grandfather)
Rachael L., daughter, age 10, born TN, about 1840
Mary C., daughter, age 7, born IL, about 1843
Margaret, daughter, age 6, born IL, about 1844
Rebecca Ann, daughter, age 3, born IL about 1847
1860
1860 Gallatin County, IL Census:
McGehee, George, age 26, born IL
(Rachael) Levina, wife, age 19, born TN
Harriet E. age, 2 months, IL
Lowery, Thomas, age 22, TN, farm hand (our great-grandfather)
Our Thomas Jesse Lowery, age 22, born in TN, is living with his married sister in Gallatin County, IL, in 1860. He has switched his first and middle name from Jesse T. in the 1850 census to Thomas Lowery in 1860 census (this is what made him so hard to find but I go by my middle name and sometimes sign my name Shannon M. Lowry instead of Margaret Shannon sooooo....) His sister, Rachael Levina Lowery married George McGehee in Gallatin County, IL in 1859.
There are other Lowerys living around John and Rachael Lowery in Gallatin County in 1860 who did come to IL through Sumner County, TN. Some of these people are probably our John Lowery's aunts and uncles but none seem to be his father and mother.
John Lowery most likely died between 1850 and 1855 in Gallatin County, IL, or less likely, he may have divorced Rachael and moved elsewhere. Anyway, John Lowery disappears from the 1860 Gallatin County census.
John Lowery's wife or likely his widow, Rachael Lowery, remarried William M. Hensly July 29, 1855 in Gallatin County, IL.
Here are other Gallatin County, IL marriages that pertain to our family:
Eliza Lowry married Andrew McGehee, Oct. 23, 1849 (daughter of John and Rachael Lowery)
Mrs. Rebecca Lowry married Robert Farrall, Feb. 18, 1851 (not sure who this is)
Sarah Lowry married John Morgan, April 29, 1855, daughter of John and Rachael Lowery
Rachael Lowry married William M. Hensly, July 29, 1855, this is the widow of John Lowery. Wm. Hensly is her second husband.
Margaret R. Lowry married William P. Davis, March 11, 1857, daughter of John and Rachael Lowry
(Rachael) Levina Lowry married George McGehee, Aug. 18, 1859, daughter of John and Rachael Lowery
Rebecca Lowry married Newton Womack, 1867, daughter of John and Rachael Lowery
William Lowrey married Malley Kelly, 1867-1882 (not sure who this is)
1870
Rachael Lowery Hensly, (the widow? of John Lowery, married 2nd to William Hensly or Hensley) ---she is seen below on the 1870 Gallatin County, IL census:
206/202 Hensley, Rachael, age 53, born in TN
Wamack, Rebecca, age 21, IL
Emma, age 6, born IL
Joseph, 11 months, IL
Hensley, Julia, age 15, IL
Maria, age 12, IL
Olive, age 7, IL
Since Rebecca Lowry married Newton Womack in Gallatin County, IL, we know that the Rebecca Wamack, shown above, age 21, is the Rebecca Lowery, age 3, shown on the 1850 Gallatin census: she was Thomas J. Lowry's little sister. The two children, Emma and Joseph, are likely Rebecca's children: either her husband has left her, is away from home or dead. Julia Hensley, Maria and Olive Hensley are likely Rachael Lowery's children by her second marriage to William M. Hensly or Hensley, who must have died before 1870.
1861:
Our Thomas Jesse Lowry (as a kid, Jesse Thomas Lowery, on his marriage certificate, it is Thomas Jesse Lowry, a very possible 1916 death certificate in Pulaski County, IL lists him as Thomas Jefferson Lowery) married Mary Ann Colp in Franklin County, IL, in 1861. (this is where her family lived) She was the daughter of Milton Stewart Colp (who was killed by the KKK in 1874) and Eliza or Louisa Dillard. (Colp can be found under all kinds of mangled spellings: Coulp, Culp, Culps, Colb, etc. in the censuses and marriage records-some changed the spelling to Culp after Milton's murder-earlier spelling was Colp.)
1864:
Our Thomas Jesse Lowry, now serving in the IL Union Army during the Civil War, states his birthplace on his military records as 1838, Sumner County, TN. (This is the only place I've ever seen our great-grandfather's birthplace listed.)
1870:
Thomas J. and Mary Ann Colp Lowry are found farming with kids on the 1870 Williamson County, IL census.
1880:
Thomas and Mary Ann Colp Lowry are found with many children on Williamson County, IL census. Thomas Jesse and Mary Ann Colp Lowry's children were:
1) John H. Lowry, born 1862, died young, (named after TJ's father)
2) Thomas Jesse Lowry Jr., born 1864, died at age 21, bured Limestone Cemetery, Union County, IL
3) Sedessia Arnetta Lowry, born 1868, married A.H. Joram in 1890s in Jackson County, IL: the couple are seen on the 1900 Jackson County, IL census.
4) Joseph Alvin Ceamore (may have been called AC), born 1869, married Ella Vancil on Nov. 25, 1894, Union County, IL
5) Larie A., born 1869 (twin to AC?) died young
6) Willis Milo Lowry (our grandfather), a twin, born 1873, East Cape Girardeau, Alexander County, IL, married Laura Belle Chism on July 30, 1896, in Union County, IL. She was the daughter of Edmon "Edward' Chism and Margaret Jane Koonce (also seen as Koontz).
7) William J., twin, born 1873, East Cape Girardeau, Alexander County, IL,
8) Miles Andrew Lowry, born April 19, 1877, Carterville, Williamson County, IL, died Nov. 14, 1940, married Sept. 10, 1896, Malinda (Linda) Harrell, in Union County, IL. She was daughter of George and Sarah Webb Harrell. Miles was buried in Cobden Cemetary, Union County, IL.
9) Noah A. Lowry, born July 16, 1879, Williamson County, IL, married Sept. 10, 1899 to Cora Jackson, Union County, IL. Noah died June 25, 1923, buried Big Creek Cemetary, Union County, IL.
1896:
Willis Milo Lowry and Laura Belle Chism Lowry marry in Union County, IL, where they had the following children:
1) Elizabeth (Lizzie) Marie, born about 1897, married Van Miller, one son Paul, who was killed in a bar fight. She is buried in Cobden Cemetary.
2) Howard (died young), born about 1898
3) Mabel, born 1900, married 1) Ben Ross, then.2) Nethers.
4) Ethel Mae, born July 28, 1902, married Brownee?, 2) Leslie Schmidt (Schmitty). Ethel died April 18, 1962, buried Cobden Cemetary
5) Albert Ceamore, called Ab, born about 1906, married Alice Williams
6) Margaret, married John McNeal, 2) Ed Thompson,
7) Willard, born 1915, Villa Ridge, Pulaski County, IL, married Sue Degler
8) Ray Edward Lowry, born March 17, 1916, Villa Ridge, Pulaski County, IL, married Lola Virginia Mathews. Ray Lowry died Oct. 5, 1981, Nashville, TN, buried St. Louisville Cemetary, Ohio.
1889:
Mary Ann Colp Lowry dies in 1889 in Williamson County, IL and after this date, we officially lose track of Thomas J. Lowry. Mary Ann Colp Lowry is buried in Limestone Cemetary, Union County, IL. Thomas J. Lowry's gravestone is also at Limestone Cemetary, but no death date is recorded. However, Thomas J. was alive in 1899 to sign the marriage certificate of one of his children. And I believe he m

Can anyone tell me what Illinois law is covering maintaining old or abandone cemetery. On March 16, 2001 my wife and I set a new stone on my ggg-grandparent's grave, Stephen (1835) and Sarah (1828) Boutwell at the Old Bradley Cemetery. The cemetery is in really poor condition and someone needs to clean it up.
We live in Stillwater, Ok and can not undertake this responsibility.
Thanks,

Researching my FLANDERS roots. I can only go back to my Maternal Grandfather with absolute certainty. His name was: Frank Flanders (b. 1887- d. 1947)
His Fathers was: Oscar Peabody Flanders and my information says he was from Illinois, after this, the trail gets weak. I was told Frank's mother died in childbirth and that Oscar married at least once more.
I have found a possible connection. On the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index there is a Oscar P. Flander married to Lucy McClain in Gallatin County, Nov. 7, 1880. I don't know if this is my guy or not but I'm hoping someone will recognize these names and have more info for me.
Frank worked for the railroad in Minnesota before 1916, married Oline Lien and moved to Sask. Canada where they homesteaded. They eventually ended up in Washington state where they both died and are buried.
My thanks in advance..................Bev
