Welcome! This page is part of the ILGREENE website. Together we can work to accomplish many things but the decision to post or not to post is mine. My decisions will be reviewed by those "higher in the chain of command" periodically. If they determine anything is not within the scope of our laws and bi-laws, they will make certain recommendations. That's the way it is! Updates will be made as soon as possible to each category. It may take hours or days or even months or years. We want to provide the best service as possible. Make sure you understand, however, there will be mistakes. Verify every piece of information you get from these sites and always, always recorded your sources.

1820 Federal Census of Madison County (Part)
|
The following was “gleaned” from the Madison County Locations for 1820 Madison County Census by Phyllis J. Bauer.
With her permission!
Apple Creek
The area along Apple Creek and south of Macoupin Creek, in what now is known as Greene County.
Greenfield
Originally Big Prairie, it became known as Greenfield in 1818. It began Cahokia Creek at the mouth of Long Lake,
thence up said creek to the bluffs, thence up the bluffs, so as to include all living under the bluff as high as to where Wood River
cuts through the bluffs, from there to Smeltzer’s ferry on the Mississippi, thence south to Dejailia’s ferry, thence down the Six Mile
Township line to the mouth of Long Lake.
The following names are "Heads of Household" in no particular order:
Apple Creek Whitacre, Robert
Apple Creek Carlen, Thomas
Greenfield Steen, James
Greenfield Denton, Jonathan
Greenfield Knuckles, James
Greenfield Parkinson, Wm.
Greenfield Hicks, Job
Greenfield Anderson, Robert G.
Apple Creek Stubbins, Christopher B.
Apple Creek Bell, Francis
Apple Creek Green, William
Apple Creek Allen, Daniel (my 5th Great Grandfather)
These are only a few of the names from Phyllis’ Census Book. There are approximately well over 400 heads of family from
Apple Creek and Greenfield.
