History of Henry County Illinois: Its Taxpayers and Voters;

A while back several members of the ILHENRY-L mailing list chipped in and we purchased a copy of this publication, thinking I would be able to scan it in and get it online fairly quickly. Sadly, the book is falling apart and is so fragile that even making copies from the pages is a tedious job. I then began transcribing the book by hand but did not get very far, just a few pages, before medical problems sidelined a great deal of typing for me. I'm now trying to train this voice recognition program "Naturally Speaking" where I can dictate transcription to it but my typing is faster than all the corrections it requires..it apparently doesn't understand Southern. <grin>

The subject of the abandoned project recently came back up on the mailing list and we've decided to try again to do this project on volunteer labor. Volunteers who had previously signed up will need to "revolunteer" as some of the criteria has changed (mostly in that I have found I just cannot go make copies.) If you have a copy of this book, or access it where you can copy a few pages to transcribe, OR if you have copied a page or two for your own research and would be willing to transcribe them, please visit the VOLUNTEER list for details.

Our transcription of this book, for the moment, is beginning with page 116, as everything prior to that point is Illinois State History and, while quite interesting, not our direct focus for the website. Once all the other portions of the book are completed we will be going back and picking up these pages in order to complete the volume.

We do have portions of the book online, but it has gaps. Those pages which are linked from the table of contents should work.
