NOTES FROM THE NEW PRESIDENT
Hopefully the new year has so far treated you well. On a personal note, two exciting things have happened to me already. First of all, the genealogy library was featured on a local TV program. Drew Wilder, host of the show came here and filmed for almost an hour, and then edited that down to about a ten minute session to be shown on the program. So our library got some extended, free advertisement. The other exciting thing was the breaking down of a "brick wall". I had an uncle that left home about 1920 and didn't want to be found. Through a misdirected e-mail his family was able to find us! Read the full story in an article within. I think the moral of this is don't give up. With persistence you will find an answer.
Within is the second in a series of histories and stories of towns of Iroquois County. We have called it Our Town. If you have remembrances of places and happenings in Iroquois County, send them to us and we will feature "your town" in an article. Inside is Our Town - Stockland.
Are you a user of Facebook? It seems to be the "now" way to communicate. Within is an article about using Facebook for your genealogy. Also Iroquois County Genealogy Society has a Facebook page! Check us out."like" us.
New things are popping up on our web site. IF you haven't been there in a while you might want to take another look.
Remember, we are an affiliate library of Family Search. You can order films from Family Search web page and have them sent here to read. We will assist you is reading and translating if needed. We can help you order the films, too. So as you plan your summer travels, think ahead so your films will be waiting for you when you arrive.
It's time to renew your membership. Thank you to those of you who have already renewed. If you have forgotten, there is a form within to send in your renewal.
'Till next issue..Mary
