James and Elizabeth Newby
James and Elizabeth Newby came to Jefferson Co. Ill. from Warren Co. Tennessee in the 1830's Elizabeth was born 1806, and was the daughter of Thompson and Mary Bethel Newby. James was born 1798 in Kentucky. They were the parents of 10 children; Susan Ann Newby, born Tenn. ca/1823, married A.J. Bridges 10 May 1839, Lavinia Newby, born 1828, Tenn., married Carroll Newby, 02 Dec 1845, Rebecca Newby born 1832 Tenn., Surina E. Newby born 19 Aug 1833 Tenn. , married John Dugger Pigg, born 25 Dec. 1827 Tenn., married 14 March 1850, Johnson H. Newby born 1835, Tenn. married Angeline ?, Jeptha Newby born 1836 married Paralee Bain, 22 Feb. 1857, Arminda A. Newby born 1838 Ill., married James D. Bryant, 11 Oct 1855, Melissa Newby, born 1839 Ill., Cynthia E. Newby, born 1842, Ill., married Benjamin F. Phenix, 15 Oct. 1858, Hannah J. Newby born 1846, Ill. married Benjamin F. Phenix 06 July 1865, all children were married in Jefferson Co. Ill. Surina E. Newby married John Dugger Pigg, and were the parents of 11 children; Nancy Green, b. Jan. 1851, Jeff . Co., Mary (Molly), b. 13 Aug. 1853, Jeff. Co., Sarah J. b. 17 Mar 1855, Jeff. Co., John M. b. 19 Sept. 1857, Martha E.(Matt) b. 10 Nov. 1858, Jeff. Co., Surina (Rene) b. 16 Aug 1861, Jeff. Co., Samuel David (Dave), b. 23 Dec. 1863, Jeff. Co. William Daniel, b. 28 Dec 1866, Jeff. Co., James Harv b. 02 May 1868, Jeff. Co., Robert B. b. 17 Oct 1870 Mo. Ellen Frances, b. 13 July 1873, Jeff. Co. Ill. John Dugger Pigg and Surina moved to Lawrence Co. Tenn. when Ellen Frances was 13 years old. They moved by covered wagon. All children moved to Tennesse except Sarah J., Married J.P. Snider, Surenia C. married Woodson Palmer. John Dugger Pigg came back to Jefferson Co. ILl. after Serina died in Lawrence Co. Tenn. about 1913. He died about 1920/25. His burial in unknown.
