OBITUARIES
  



Pauline Kinison Atkinson, 80, of Mt. Vernon died 
12:35 p.m. April 2, 2005, at Jeffersonian Nursing 
Home in Mt. Vernon. 

Mrs. Atkinson was born June 13, 1924, in Mt. Vernon 
to Josiah Paul and Edna Jennie (Henry) Kinison. 
She married Edward Percy Atkinson Dec. 31, 1942, 
in Corpus Christi, Texas; he survives.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at 
Epworth United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. 
The Rev. Robert Hollis will officiate. Burial 
will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey 
Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. 

Mrs. Atkinson is survived by her husband, 
Edward Percy Atkinson of Mt. Vernon; a son, 
Michael Atkinson and wife Sherry of Fredericksburg, Va.; 
a daughter, Pamela Chadbourne and husband Scott of Mt. Vernon; 
five grandchildren, Laura Michelle Schaefer and husband 
Andrew of Pittsburgh, Pa., Seth Woodland Atkinson and 
wife Jill of Cave Creek, Ariz., Terra Kathleen Atkinson 
of Charlotte, N.C., Erin S. Chadbourne of Mt. Vernon and 
Katherine S. Chadbourne of Mt. Vernon; a great-granddaughter, 
Elizabeth Jane Schaefer of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a sister, 
Mary Lou Becker of Golden, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, 
Raymond Kinison; and a sister, Margaret Potts. 

Mrs. Atkinson first worked as a payroll clerk at Mt.Vernon Car 
Manufacturing Co. and was later employed for 17 years and retired 
from the comptrollerís position at F. W. Woolworth Co. of Mt. Vernon. 
She was a lifetime member of Epworth United Methodist Church, 
where she was baptized as an infant by her grandfather, 
the Rev. Josiah Paul Kinison, was also pianist and choir director 
there for over 40 years, was chairperson of the music committee 
and a member of the Quilting Ladies of the church, a member of 
the Womenís Society for Christian Service and was financial 
secretary at the church for over 25 years. She was involved with 
her childrenís school activities and was also a housewife and an 
avid, talented quilter. Her church and her family were of utmost 
importance in her life.
