Ed CLINTON, who lived a short distance north of Ina, was killed
early today when he stepped from behind a car into the path of
another auto on the state highway opposite the Kirk Cemetery, north of Ina.

Rev. C. W. MARTIN of Bluford was driver of the car which struck
CLINTON in the unavoidable accident. An inquest in the death was
to be conducted by Coroner Howard HESTER at the Snyder Funeral Home
in Ina late this afternoon. Deputy Coroner Hardy MANNEN and Sheriff
Clyde D. MITCHELL visited the scene of the tragedy this morning and
learned how the accident occurred.

Mr. CLINTON and wife lived about three quarters of a mile east of
Kirk Cemetery. Mrs. CLINTON was coming into Mt. Vernon and she and
Mr. CLINTON walked to the highway where she was to be given a ride
into Mt. Vernon by Fred CAMPBELL and Irvin PICKETT of Ina. PICKETT
and CAMPBELL drove up in their car and stopped. CLINTON stepped from
behind their car directly into the path of a southbound car which could
not prevent hitting him. The body was taken to the Snyder Funeral Home
in Ina. Funeral arrangements had not been completed early this afternoon.
