Dora May Estes
Mrs. Dora May ESTES passed away quietly at the home of her daughter
Mrs. Stella JENKINS, 1108 South 18th Street, Thursday p.m. July 26th
at 4 o'clock after several months of illness of complicated diseases.
Mrs. ESTES was born and reared in ___ being 72 years 2 months. Mrs. ESTES
was born and reared in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood and lived her entire
life in and around Mt. Vernon with the exception of about 17 years when she
lived on a farm in Spring Garden. She was the youngest daughter of Jordan and
Mary Ann TYLER. Everything that skillful hands can do was done to relieve her
but all in vain.
At the age of 25, she was married to Mr. John WILLMORE, who preceded her in
death 29 years ago. In 1906, she again was married to the younger brother
Rev. Henry WILLMORE and he passed away in 1918. Later in 1921, she was again
married to Downing C. ESTES who survives her passing,
About 25 years ago Sister ESTES became interested in her soul and eternal
well being, at which time she became a Christian, being converted and baptized,
she became a member of the Saints of the Church of God. She attended church as
long as her health would permit. She often expressed the desire to attend
services but her health would not permit. In the last months of suffering
when visited by the pastor she would inquire about the church and Saints.
She was a devoted wife, mother and nieghbor, willing to help any one whom she
was able. Until her dying hours, she prayed for health but if it is not your
will to heal me take me home. Many times she had said "take me home."
Those left to mourn her passing: her husband, a daughter, five grandchildren,
four-great grandchidren, a number of nieces and nephews, with other relatives
and a number of friends.
