Pauline Virginia Gossage Pauline Virginia Gossage, age 85, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, died at 5:20 P.M. on Saturday, February 18, 2006, at her residence in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born on December 10, 1921 in Mount Vernon, Illinois, a daughter to the late John Mathus and Nora (McBride) Mathus. She married William J. Gossage on July 31, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 27, 1988. Along with her parents and husband, her four brothers: Tommy Mathus, Arthur Mathus, John Mathus, and Evan Mathus, and her one sister: Opal Dillon, preceded her in death. Pauline was a member of Freewill Baptist Church and the Ladies' Auxiliaries to Mount Vernon VFW Post, Good Samaritan Hospital and Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Graveside Service will be held at 3 P.M. Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. Reverend Mark Dye will officiate. Burial will follow in South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. Her surviving family members include a Son: Ted Mathus-Wood of Mount Vernon, Illinois and several Nieces and Nephews that she loved dearly, also survive. For those who wish, memorials may be given to American Lung Association and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, Illinois 62864.
