Edna Louise Hayes

Edna Louise Hayes, 82, of Mt. Vernon died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, 
Oct. 29, 2000, at her home.

She was born June 30, 1918, in Jefferson County, daughter of Jesse 
Walentine and Nona Frances (Smith) Minor.  She married Rayburn M. "Ray" 
Hayes on Aug. 10, 1935, in Mt. Vernon and he preceded her in death on 
Sept. 2, 1993.

She is survived by three sons, Thomas "Tom: Hayes, Larry Hayes and Rick 
Hayes, all of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Frances Staley of Mt. Vernon 
and Pat Staley of Texico; two sisters, Ruby Coats of DeKalb and Zelma 
Coats of Aurora; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hayes was employed for several years in the laundry department of 
St. Mary's/Good Samaritan Hospital.  She was a longtime member of 
Hopewell United Methodist Church.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home 
with the Rev. Jeff VanDyke officiating.  Interment will follow at 
Hopewell Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hopwell United Methodist Church and will be 
accepted at the funeral home.
