Edward Wheeler Hughes

Edmond Wheeler Hughes, 85 died at the home of his daughter, 
Mrs. Lucinda Tate, rural route one, Mt. Vernon, at eight o'clock 
last night. He had been ill since the first of January. 

Funeral services will be held in Dahlgren at the First Baptist Chursh,
Sunday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Bird Green. Burial will be in the 
Odd Fellows cemetery at Dahlgren. The body will lie in state at the home 
of his daughter, Mrs. Ward Largent,southwest of Dahlgren until the funeral hour. 

Mr. Hughes was born August 15, 1853.  His wife died May 10, 1936. He leaves 
seven children, two sons and five daughters. The sons are Oliver and Walter 
Hughes of Mt. Vernon. The daughters are Mrs. Tate, Mrs Bessie Barbee of Belle Rive, 
Mrs. Daisy Anderson of McLeansboro, Mrs. Bertha Cullins of Centralia, and Mrs 
Ruby Largent of Dahlgren. A brother is Charles M. Hughes of Bonnie. 

He also leaves 18 grand children and a number of great grand children.
