Mary M. Tackwell Hughes
Mrs. Mary Hughes, wife of Ed Hughes, died at the family home in Moore's Prairie
township south of Dahlgren at six o'clock Sunday morning. Mrs. Hughes suffered a
broken left arm and shoulder in a fall while visiting a daughter in Centralia last week and
was returned to her home. Pneumonia, which developed later was believed to have caused
her death. She was 78 years old.
Mr. and Mrs. Hughes had lived in Moore's Prairie township all their lives and were among
the best known residents. He is 82 years old.
Surviving are seven children: Oliver and Walter Hughes of Mt. Vernon; Mrs. M. L. Tate,
who lives south of Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Dan Cullins, Centralia; Mrs. Roy Barbee of north of Dahlgren;
Mrs. Ward Largent, who lives at the Hughes home; and Mrs. Wilburn Anderson, McLeansboro.
One sister and two brothers also survive.
Funeral services will be held at the Dahlgren Baptist church at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon.
Interment will be made in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Dahlgren.
