Mrs. Alice KIRK, wife of M. E. KIRK, died at her home on North Elm Street
about 4:30 p.m. last Wednesday (Nov. 23) after a short illness. She was
66 years of age at the time of her death and was a native of Spring Garden
Township. Mrs. KIRK was the daughter of Nathan and Mary JONES who for many
years occupied the old JONES homestead near Spring Garden.
She was united in marriage with M. E. KIRK, the surviving husband, some
45 years ago. Four children were born, to this union, three of whom survive,
Mrs. Ione LANE and Miss Maxine KIRK of Ina, and Charles KIRK of West Frankfort,
a grandson Charles Ray LANE of Ina; also her mother, Mrs. Mary JONES of Benton,
now 83 years old; two brothers, Will and Nathan JONES of Barnsdall, Okla., and
four sisters, Mrs. Lizzie KNOWLES of Bonnie, Mrs. Della LAWSON and Mrs. Ollie FISHER
of Benton and Mrs. Pearl ADAMS of Opdyke.
Mrs. KIRK was an energetic industrious woman who devoted her life to her home and
the welfare of her family. She was a good neighbor and a kind friend whose passing
will be greatly missed by the community.
Funeral was held at the Ina M. E. Church at 2 p.m. Saturday. Services were conducted
by Rev. W. R. BURTON of Whittington. Burial followed at KIRK Cemetery.
