Arthur E. LONG, of 1200 south 25th street died at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at 
Good Samaritan Hospital, at the age of 80 years, 10 months, 17 days. 
Mr. Long was a member of the Mt. Vernon police department for many years 
and served as a guard at Menard penitentiary for 23 years. 
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Myers Chapel with Herbert J. 
WILSON officiating.  Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. 
He was born May 8, 1883, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Long.  He was mar- 
ried to Florence Lula OAKLEY who preceded him in death on June 23, 1959. 
He is survived by one son, Gleason Long of Mobile, Ala.; a daughter, Mrs. Dor- 
othy RATHGEBER of St. Louis; and one grandson, Eddie Long, of Dix.
