OBITUARY:  The Mt. Vernon Register News published the following on Monday, 
September 10, 1979 which read:
 "Mrs. Alma D. Mannen, 90, of 2701 Casey Ave., 
died Sunday at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center, Carmi.  She was 
employed for several years at the Mammoth Department Store.  Funeral services 
will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Hughey Funeral Home, with the Rev. 
Robert F. Freytag officiating.  Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Memorial 
Gardens.  Friends may call at the Hughey Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Tuesday.  
Mrs. Mannen ws born September 26, 1888, in Waltonville, the daughter of David 
and Olive (Gilbert) Dodds.  On August 11, 1909, in Waltonville, she was 
married to Hardy E. Mannen, who preceded her in death May 26, 1972.  
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Anna Ruth Scherer of Mt. Vernon; two 
sisters, Mrs. Ruth Thompson of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Anna Reid of Centralia; 
six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  
She was preceded in death by one son, Marvin, two brothers, two sisters, her 
parents and husband.  Mrs. Mannen attended the First Presbyterian Church, and 
was a member of the Home Bureau for many years."
