Mellie Jane Newton

Mellie Jane NEWTON, 83, of Ledbetter, Ky., a former resident of 
Mt. Vernon and Kalamazoo, Mich., died at 2:45 p.m. Saturday at 
the Salem Nursing Home, Salem, Ky.  Miss NEWTON was born in Franklin 
County on August 20, 1894, the daughter of Logan and Mary Alice 
(SCARBOROUGH) NEWTON.  She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, 
Kalamazoo, Mich.  

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Hughey 
Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Ross PARTRIDGE officiating.  
Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, Franklin County.  Friends may call 
at the funeral home after 6 p.m. today.

Miss NEWTON is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Stewart (Pearl) BEAN, 
Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Charlie (Mary Belle) MYERS, Mt. Vernon; a step-sister, 
Mrs. Lois CLARK, Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews including 
Mrs. Kenneth (Wilma) DONOHO of Ledbetter, Ky., with whom Miss NEWTON made 
her home for the last few years.  Miss NEWTON was preceded in death by 
her parents, two brothers and one sister.
