John Thomas ORRICK, was born on the 16th day of 
November, 1843 in the state of Tennessee.
When 8 years of age his parents moved to Illinois and settled 
near Spring Garden and later to Moores Prairie where he grew
to manhood. He enlisted in the service of his country in Company 
E 155th Illinois Infantry in 1864 and was mustered out of service 
in May 1865, receiving an honorable discharge. On the 7th day of 
February 1866 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary L. Kinnison. 
To this union 7 children were born, 3 sons and 4 daughters; one 
daughter died in infancy, Kate died some years ago. The surviving 
children are, Samuel and Stephen Orrick of Mt. Vernon, Charles C. 
Orrick living on the home place, Mrs. Feribia Overbey of Dahlgren 
and Mrs. Blanche Crouch of Belle Rive. He also leaves 2 brothers, 
George Orrick of Collinsvile and C. F. Orrick of Mt. Vernon and 
one sister Mrs. Mary J. White of Pocahontas, Ark. Mr. Orrick’s wife
died on the 5th day of Nov. 1912 and since then he has been very 
lonely as they were inseparable companions and he has not been a well 
man for more than a year he has been practically an invalid, he grew 
gradually worse till the end. On Wednesday, November 17th at about 
5:30 P.M. he passed away in peace, his children and loved ones 
surrounding his bed.His age was 77 years and l day. He was converted 
and unte with the Methodist church some 37 years ago was a member of
same at his death. He was a very quiet and reserved in manner without 
much demonstration, yet his faith was firm in Christ as the Redeemor 
of men. He was a good man and will be missed. 
The funeral was conducted by Rev. Bush pastor of the M. E.
church of Dahlgren, at 2:30 P.M. Nov. 18th at Lowry Hill church. 
We can truly sing - "Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep."
