Mrs. Leona Helen PATTERSON, 54, the wife of Burrell R. Patterson of 212
S. 16th street, died last night at 9:45 in Good Samaritan Hospital after a long ill-
ness. She had been in the hospital 20 days.
Mrs. Patterson was born in Mt. Vernon, December 16, 1898, the daughter of
George and Alice (JONES)YEARWOOD. She married Mr. Patterson Feb-
ruary 20, 1920 in Mt. Vernon and they were the parents of four children. She
is survived by her husband, former third alderman and well known trucking
business operator; two sons, Burrell L. and George R. of Mt. Vernon; and two
daughters, Mrs. Marjorie DANNER of Mt. Vernon and Miss Sue Anne Pat-
terson at home; four grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Alice SPIDEL of Bridge-
port, Ill.,; a brother Tom Yearwood of Nicholasville, Ky. and two sisters, Mrs.
Jessie EATER of Washington, Mo. and Mrs. Mamie HITE of Chicago.
She attended Mt. Vernon grade school and high schools. She was a member
of the First Baptist church since she was 14 years of age and was also active in
the White Shrine and Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 at the First Baptist church, con-
ducted by the Rev. Andrew CARAKER and the Rev. Lester E. PIFER. Burial
will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Pulley Funeral Home.
