Mrs. S. E. ROANE, died at her home in Dodds township, seven miles 
south of Mt. Vernon, at noon yesterday, after a protracted illness. 
Deceased was the next to youngest child of John and Sally HOWARD 
and born in Macon county, North Carolina, June 8, 1834, consequently 
was 64 years, 2 months and 18 days of age at the time of her death. 
She was married to Robert D. ROANE of her native state and county, 
March 4, 1858, and came with her husband to Ill. two years later and 
has resided here ever since. Of this union seven children were born of 
whom Ellis, Robert, Emma, Cora and Quince survive their mother. Henry 
and Charles died in infancy. She was a member of the M.E. church at Opdyke 
and was active in all of its benevolences. 
The funeral occured at 3 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. TENNYSON of the 
M.E. church conducting the obsequies. 
The interment was at Smith cemetery in Spring Garden twp.
