Mable L. Simmons

Mable L. Simmons, 89, of Mt. Vernon died 5:22 p.m. Jan. 11, 2005, at 
St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was a homemaker. 
Mrs. Simmons was born Nov. 28, 1915, in Pope County to Walter and Ella 
(Lewis) McCormick. She married Francis M. Simmons Sept. 28, 1946, in 
Vienna; he died March 23, 1994. 

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home 
in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Mike Steed will officiate. Burial will follow at 
New Shiloh Cemetery in rural Jefferson County.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. 

Mrs. Simmons is survived by a daughter, Sharon Yearwood and husband Steve of 
Mt. Vernon; grandsons Jarrod Yearwood and wife Amanda of Mt. Vernon and Jordan 
Yearwood of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, 
Carlos McCormick and C.L. McCormick; and three sisters, Madge Lay, Nellie Martin 
and Mildred Newton.

Mrs. Simmons was a member of Second General Baptist Church, Eastern Star in 
Stonefort and was a past Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospice 
and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, 
P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care 
of Hughey Funeral Home, where you may call 242-3348 for obituary information at 
any time.
