Henry Soper, of 711 Casey Avenue, died at 4:15 o'clock this morning at
the home of his son, Jessie Soper of Vienna, Ill. His age was 87 years,
three months and 20 days.
Mr. Soper was a retired farmer.
He was born May 10, 1863 in Willisville, Ill., the son of Benjamin and Sarah
(Higgerson) Soper. On August 9, 1885 he was married, in, Ashley, Ill., to Katie
Bell Newman, who preceded him in death May 5. 1943. Mr. Soper had been a resident
of Mt. Vernon for the past 28 years.
He is survived by four sons, Harry of Bordolph, Ill., Jesse of Vienna, Ill., John
of Gallup, New Mexico and Charlie of Belknap, Ill.; five daughters, Mrs. Gertrude
Howard, Mrs. Laura Gibson, Mrs. Ida Porter and Mrs. Edith Marlin of Mt. Vernon and
Mrs. Carrie E. McCall of Vienna; two brothers, Curtis of Odin and John of Okawville;
and one sister, Mrs. F. M. Norton of Cutler, Ill. He is also survived by 31 grandchildren
and 14 great-grand-children.
Funeral services will be head at 2:00 pm Thursday at the Hopewell Church. The body
will remain at Myers Chapel, where friends may call at any time after 4:00 pm today.
