JEFFERSON COUNTY IL
DEATH OF BERT WATSON
Postmaster S. H. Watson received a telegram from his brother,
Dr. H. S. Watson, from Jacksonville, Fla., today stating that the
latter's son, Bert, died at the military hospital at Camp Cuba Libre
yesterday morning and would be brought home on the L & N train
tomorrow for interment in the family burying ground at Woodlawn.
He was a member of Co. K Ninth Regiment, and had only been
sick five or six days. A message reached Dr. Watson last Thursday
from Jacksonville announcing the serious condition of his son which
was the first intimation that had reached the family of his illness.
His father left at once for the bedside of the sick soldier and was with
him when he died. Deceased was twenty-two of age an volunteered
as a private in Co. K at the outbreak of the late war. For a period of
two years, during the superintendency of Dr. Walter Watson, he was
an attendant at the Central Hospital for the Insane at Jacksonville.
The funeral will probably take place at Woodlawn sometime tomorrow.
Dr. and Mrs. Watson have the sympathy of the entire community in the
misfortune which has befallen them in the death of their only son.
