Mary K. Wetzel
(September 25, 1925 - January 2, 2013)
Mary Wetzel, 87, of rural Tuscola, IL, passed away at 3:15 p.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2013
at her residence.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Tuscola United
Methodist Church, 901 North Prairie Street, Tuscola, IL. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.,
Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL.
Burial will be in the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL.
Mary was born on September 25, 1925 in Ina, IL, the daughter of Harry and Vivian Keller Taylor.
She married Harold Wetzel on December 24, 1944 in Tuscola, IL. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2007.
Survivors include her daughter: Sue E. Gavin of Seattle, WA, son: Steve H. Wetzel and wife: Beverly
of Tuscola, IL, brother: Gale Taylor of Houston, TX, grandchildren: Rebecca (David) Harap of
Chicago, IL and Bradly Wetzel of Nashville, IL; great-granddaughter: Rachel Harap of Chicago, IL and
numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother: Charles Taylor of Tuscola and sister: Doris Horn
of Tuscola.
Mary was a homemaker and helped Harold farm. In the early sixties she began working outside the
home, first at the Tuscola Coop Grain Company as an accounting secretary and then at the Tuscola
Public Library, where she was the head librarian until her retirement. She was a member of the
Tuscola United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Mary was a
lifelong member of the Galton Ladies Club and a member of the Tuscola Woman’s Club. She was a member
of the first board of directors of the Tuscola Community Foundation. Mary enjoyed spending winters
in Florida and Houston, and she loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
