Emma Williams

Emma Williams, 89, of Woodlawn died 9:27 a.m. Sept. 12, 2005, at Nature 
Trail Healthcare Center in Mt. Vernon. She was a cook for Woodlawn 
Grade School for several years. 

Mrs. Williams was born Aug. 3, 1916, in Johnston City to William Toney 
and Amanda (Beard) Flanagan. She married Clifford Williams Feb. 1, 1932, 
in Effingham; he preceded her in death April 1, 1975. 

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Vernon Memorial 
Gardens in Mt. Vernon. James McKenzie will officiate. Friends may call from 
5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. 

Mrs. Williams is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Davis and husband Gene 
of Mt. Vernon, Delores "Dodie" Sheridan and husband Gerald of Mt. Vernon and 
Leota Etheridge of Woodlawn; two sons, Buck Williams and wife Sherry of Woodlawn 
and Harold Lee "Butch" Williams and wife Linda of Mt. Vernon; 13 grandchildren; 
27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and 
nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Fred and Bob 
Toney; two sisters, Edna Woodward and Cleo Rose; and two sons-in-law, Dennis Minor 
and Heavy Etheridge. 

Mrs. Williams was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, the Woodlawn Rebekah 
Lodge, Woodlawn Christian Church and the Senior Citizens Circle of the church. She 
taught all her grandkids how to drive. She loved to cook for family and friends and 
was always ready to go anywhere they wanted to take her. 

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and will be 
accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, 
Mt. Vernon, IL 62864. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Hughey Funeral 
Home, where you may call 242-3348 for further information.
