Wanda L. Wood

Wanda L. Wood, 76, of Mt. Vernon died at 10:57 a.m. on July
25, 2003, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Wood was born April 16, 1927, in Jefferson County to Frank Richardson and 
Artrula (Gordon) Richardson. She married Guy Wood, Jr. on September 18, 1948, in 
Mt. Vernon. He died March 1, 1985.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. 
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hughey Funeral Home and burial 
will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Wood is survived by one son, Scott G. Wood of Glenview; two daughters, 
Barbara Bright and husband Gary of Flora and Sarah Sledge and husband Terry of 
Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Greg Bright of Flora, Kim Bright of Flora, Quinton 
Sledge of Mt. Vernon, Kathleen Sledge of Mt. Vernon; and one sister, Lena Faye Estes of
Sun City Center, Florida.

Her parents, husband, and infant brother preceded her in death. 

Mrs. Wood was a member of the Logan Street Baptist Church and at one time was the 
church organist. She was also a long-time member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

In honor of her love for her family, children and sports, the family requests 
memorials be made to the Mt. Vernon YMCA Building Fund. Memorials will be accepted 
at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. 
Vernon, IL, 62864. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Hughey Funeral Home, 
where you may call (618) 242-3348 for obituary information at any time.
