You may find information on your ancestors in neighboring counties. Kankakee county was not formed until 1853. Before that, the land north of the river belonged to Will county and the land south of the river, except Essex and Norton townships, belonged to Iroquois county. The land in Essex and Norton townships was admitted to Kankakee county from Vermilion county in 1855.

QUERY: Walter W. Knecht - was the Principal at Cahokia High School from 1951 - 1955, then he became Principal at Kankakee High School. I'm doing research for a history of Cahokia High School and would like to learn more about Mr. Knecht. He was Cahokia's first Principal, and would hold a prominent place in its history. QUERY: William Edward Lytle, my husband's grandfather helped build a railroad depot in the Kankakee area. Not sure what dates he worked on the depot, but know he was living in Kankakee in 1907. Would appreciate any information about dates the depot was built and is there any information in the museum about the workers that helped build it? Would like a picture of the depot in that timeframe if one is available. Thanks for any help that is available.

QUERY: Looking for any information on Anna Catherine Dadey Schrader born in Champaign County, near Tolono in 1917, daughter of Anna Margaret Klein Dadey and Edward J. Dadey Graduated from Champaign Central High School in 1934. She married Thomas J. Schrader in 1936? and they divorced some time before 1946. She was listed as living in Kankakee, IL until 1976. She worked for Walgreens. Any info would be greatly apprciated.

QUERY: DAVIS---I'm looking for information about the Samuel DAVIS(1792-1851) Family of Bourbonnis. He was married at least twice, 1st to Margaret________ and 2nd(Jan 5 1840) to Mary Anne Snyder. QUERY: My wife has an ancestor named Pauline Pombert (birth date unknown) that came from the Kankakee area who married an Elmer Belote b. 1841 LaGrange County, Indiana. They had a child named Anna Belote b. May 16, 1860 Watseka, Iroquois Co., IL. Anna is buried in Mt. Calvary Cemetery there in Kankakee where there were (and still are) a lot of the name Pombert, I was wondering if Pauline may be of one of numerous Pombert's in that area around the 1840's. QUERY: My Great grandmother was Milodell Baudry/Beaudry/Boudreau. She was born in Kankakee Co. Illinois in 1863. In 1879 she married Hubert Gelino. They had 2 children in Kankakee Co. Harvey and Eva. They then moved to Kansas and were divorced. She moved to Clay Co., Iowa and married Remy Francouer/ Franker. She died there in 1900. I can't find Birth record, marriage records or anything so don't know her parents names. I know she did not drop out of THIN AIR. All of this info is related to me by other family. They say her maiden name was Marian on her Marriage cert. in Illinois. And her maiden name was Boudreau on the birth of Harvey. But no proof. I NEED PROOF. Thank you.

QUERY: I am trying to find where my great-aunt is buried. I was young and all the family has forgotten the exact facts. Her name was Nyla Line(passed 1991) buried next to DHenry Line(1980). we believe to be buried in Chebanse. I have looked in the cemetery by the school, I believe is called Evergreen. QUERY: I am looking for information on Jane Phoenix and Children, James, Sam, Robert and Eliza Jane all in Essex, Kankakee county, IL., 1870.
They came about 1865 from Canada although the census says the children where born in IL, but they were born in Canada. Robert and Sam were coal miners. Sam is said to have died there in an apartment fire. I don't know when, just between 1870 and 1880. By 1880 they are in Des Moines, IA., and Sam is not with them. I would like to know more about that. James born 1852, Sam 1864, Robert 1859, Eliza 1862, mother Jane born, in Ireland 1828, is a widow.

QUERY: I am looking for any information regarding my great-grandmother, Maude Chittock. Her married name was McRoberts. She was admitted to Kankakee Mental Hospital in 1910 and died in 1911. She was born Sept.16, 1876 in Chicago and was married to George McRoberts in 1896. They had one child (my grandfather), Robert in 1898. After Maude is admitted in the Mental Hospital, I am unable to find any information about George McRoberts at all. Is there any way to get records regarding admissions to Kankakee State Mental Hospital during this time period; or if anyone has any information on Maude, George, or Robert McRoberts, please email me.
