QUERY: I am searching for THOMAS THOMPSON and ANNA HANSEN THOMPSON, Danish immigrants. THOMAS had been a cavalryman in the Danish Army. After a short time spent in upper New York state, they moved to DeSelm in Kakankee County in 1886 and lived there on a farm, probably as tenant farmers, until approximately 1894. Their children born prior to their arrival would have been; ANDREW PETER, ANTIONETTE HILDEGARD, and KATE, and they attended the Bloom School. Additional children born while they lived here were; ROSE, b 1886, ANNE b. 1889, THOMAS b. 1892, a baby boy named NICHOLAS b. 1893, who soon died, and a second baby boy named NICHOLAS b. 1894 who also died as an infant. Both of these infants are said to have been buried in a graveyard adjacent to the Bloom school, probably in unmarked graves. The THOMPSONS were Catholic and probably attended a church in the area. THOMAS applied for and was granted U.S. citizenship while they lived here. In 1894 the family moved to another farm in the East St. Louis area of St. Claire County IL. ANNA was to die in childbirth two years later, and THOMAS was killed following that in a railroad accident in Joliet IL. The orphaned children were then placed in the Angel Guardian Orphanage in Joliet. I would very much appreciate any help or suggestions that anyone could offer with this, my elderly father's family, as I have hit the proverbial brick wall. Thank you.

I have listed last names in ALL CAPS.

Legend as I have guessed at it:
s= south; e= east; w=west; n=north;

QUERY: Looking for orphanage in Kankakee, Illinois in late 1880's, early 1900's. Nicholas Neifing and Elsie Marks married January 13, 1889. They adopted a girl they named Florence Neifing b. January 13, 1889 and a boy they named Lester b. 1887 supposedly from a orphanage in Kankakee, Illinois. Was there a orphanage? Or, a unwed mothers home or perhaps a charity hospital? QUERY: My mother remembers going to my great grandmom's funeral in Feb 1957. My ggrandmother was at the 'state hospital' which as one aunt said was in 'Manito' but I have tracked to possibly Manteno. Is that a state hospital? Is there a cemetary there? My mom said that the burial site was within walking distance to the hospital which was a big building. The family lived in Chicago so I had always assumed that the hospital was there. Can someone help? In appreciation, Anna D.
