The Batcheler Family

My Kankakee County surname is BATCHELER.

My ancestor Marcus D Lafayette BATCHELER, b. Aug 9, 1824 in Huntington Twp, Luzerne Co, PA, moved to Wilmington, Will County, IL in 1848 with his wife Elizabeth DYKENS (b. 1825 in Williamsport, Lycoming Co, PA, m. 1845 in Williamsport) and young family. There he bought 160 acres of land from the State, but soon moved in to town and opened a store in Wilmington. They moved to Kankakee in 1868 where he ran a hotel, and in about 1871 to Momence where he also operated a hotel. His wife Elizabeth died August 7, 1884. After 1884 he moved to Chebanse where he worked at the Illinois Eastern Hospital. In 1894 he moved to Chicago, where he died May 29, 1904. Both he and his wife Elizabeth are buried at Mound Grove Garden of Memories in Kankakee, along with their son George.
