The Broecker Family

I would like to talk with the person who called Wednesday morning, August 20,1997, saying that he had lived in Ohio in 1960. I am sorry that we accidentally lost the telephone connection. I am actively researching the people listed on my BROECKER page, including the surnames GRUNDLER, KELLY, RODEBAUGH, LANGHAM AND GOUTCHEY, and am guessing that the call we lost is related to them. I am looking for living descendants of Frederick William Theodore Broecker and Bertha Schroeder who lived at 282 5th Avenue in Kankakee from about 1870. Frederick was a brother of my great-grandfather, Henry Otto Louis Broecker.

Henry Broecker and Theresa (Aunt Nan) (Aunt Tracy) Kleutgen lived with Frederick in 1876. The first three of their children were born in Kankakee and I am looking for birth information on Lillian? b abt 1875; and Ernestina b 1876

The children of Fred and Bertha were:


• Otto, died in infancy.
• Clara m (John Berry) or (Barry), lived in Los Angeles at least from 1924 to 1944.
• Ella m (James J. Goutchey), lived in Santa Fe NM in 1944.
• Selma m (Thomas W. Rodebaugh), lived in Upper Sandusky OH in 1944.
• Pauline (Paula) m (Fred Grundler), lived in Elyria OH in 1944.
• Fredericka (Freda), died in infancy.
• Frederick E., married a woman named Margaret and lived in Rockford IL. Margaret died. He married Dorothy Rosencrants after the death of his brother Arthur C.. They lived in Rockford IL, then Indianapolis IN.
• Meta m (Henery J. Kelley), lived in Chicago IL, then in Worthington OH in 1960.
• Bertha (Aunt Birdie) m (George D. Langham), lived in Wyoming OH in 1960.
• Henry W. (Harry), married a woman named Nedra from Iowa, lived in Los Angeles CA from 1920, probably until his death in 1971.
• Arthur C., married Dorothy Rosencrants and lived in Indianapolis IN. I have located his descendents, and they have provided me with a wealth of information, but there is still a lot to find.

I have an old photo taken in Kankakee about 1910 which shows Theresa Kleutgen, Henry Broecker, Bertha Schroeder Broecker, Frederick W.T.Broecker, Meta Broecker Kelley, Wallace Broecker, (son of Henry and Theresa), Harold Grundler (son of Paula), Paula Broecker Grundler, and Helen Grundler (daughter of Paula). A copy of this photo is also held by the descendants of Arthur C. Broecker. I am sure there are more copies out there with other descendants.

I am also trying to locate living descendants of August Broecker who lived in Aroma Township and at 4325 N. Spaulding, Chicago IL. I am confident he was a brother of Henry Otto Louis Broecker and Frederick William Theodore Broecker. His daughter Clara and her husband Harry Gotham also lived at the Chicago address. His son Amos lived in Aroma Township. Annie, wife of Amos Broecker, died in Kankakee.
